Delta House of Assembly on Tuesday passed the Structures for Signage and Advertisement Agency Amendment Bill.

The passage of the bill during plenary in Asaba followed the consideration of a report by the Chairman, House Committee on Local Government and Chieftaincy, Dafe Chukudi.

Mr Chukudi (PDP-Ukwuani), while presenting the report, noted that the Executive Bill had nine clauses.

He also said that the bill, when passed, would help to boost the revenue base of the state and the local government councils.

The bill was later read and adopted clause-by-clause before the Committee of the Whole House chaired by the Speaker.

Consequently, the majority leader of the Assembly, Emeka Nwaobi, moved a motion for the third reading and passage of the bill, and was seconded by Matthew Omonade (APC-Ughelli North I).

The Speaker, Dennis Guwor (PDP-Warri South West), put the motion to a voice vote, and it was unanimously adopted by the lawmakers.

Responding, Mr Guwor, who commended the lawmakers for their commitment towards the bill, said its passage was necessitated by the challenges faced by the agency in enforcing the exact terms of the proposed amendment.

‘He “This is due to a series of judgements delivered by Delta State High Court on final collections of charges for outdoor signage and advertisement for local government councils. The objective of this bill is to foster collaboration between the state government and local government councils in enhancing the collection of all revenues connected with the Delta State Structures for Signage and Advertisement. On this note, I want to thank members for the successful passage of this bill.
