NAFDAC recalls Nivea roll-on deodorant over safety concerns

The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has recalled Nivea roll-on deodorant due to safety concerns.
NAFDAC disclosed this on Thursday in a Public Alert No. 041/2024. The agency stated that the European Union Rapid Alert System for Dangerous Non-Food Products (Rapex) authorities raised the concerns.

According to NAFDAC, the product contains chemicals capable of negatively affecting a user’s reproductive system, and the health of a child still in the womb, among other skin disorders.
“The recalled product is said to contain 2-(4-tert-Butylbenzyl propionaldehyde (BMHCA), a chemical prohibited in cosmetics products due to its ability to cause harm to the reproductive system, impairs the health of an unborn child as well as skin irritation and burns to users.
“The details of the product are as follows: product name: Nivea, black & white Invisible 50ml, product brand: Nivea, country of manufacture: Germany, batch number: 93529610, bar code, number: 42299882, category: Cosmetics”
