Ronaldo breaks Platini’s record at EURO 2020

Portuguese star Cristiano Ronaldo has added another feather to his cap after breaking Michel Platini’s record for most goals in European championship.
Ronaldo scored twice in Portugal’s game against Hungary on Tuesday to reach the new landmark. His first goal of the evening came in the 84th minute while he added the second in regulation time.
With the goals, the five-time Ballon d’Or winner sank the records of both Platini and England’s Alan Shearer who both had nine goals in the European competition to set a new goalscoring record.
Ronaldo’s second goal came in exquisite fashion as he combined with teammates in a neat interchange of defence-splitting passes that carved the Hungarian defence open before Ronaldo dribbled past the goalkeeper to slot home his shot.
Gueriro’s earlier strike meant the Portuguese went away 3-0 better than their Hungarian counterpart.
The Juventus star had become the first player to register an appearance at five different European championships after appearing in 2004, 2008, 2012, 2016 and 2020 editions, beating Bastian Schweinsteiger’s record.
The 36-year-old Ronaldo also holds other numerous records which includes most goals in a UEFA Champions League season (17) and in the competition’s history, most international goals scored in a calendar year in 2017 with 32 goals, first player to score more than 50 goals in seven successive years from 2011-2017, Europe’s highest international goalscorer and many more.
Ronaldo is also four goals behind the all-time highest international goal scorer, Ali Daei.
He is on course to break the record and set a new one at the ongoing Euros.
