Sen. Ibrahim Lamido (APC Sokoto-East), has awarded full scholarships to 42 indigent students to study medical and allied science courses in India.

Mr Lamido disclosed this during the presentation of letters of award to the successful candidates on Sunday in Sokoto.

Represented by Dr Umar Namahe, Mr Lamido said: “The students will be on full scholarship, as their bills covering; visa, air tickets, tuition fees, feeding, accommodation and monthly stipends for the period of two years have already been settled.

“The beneficiaries are part of 100 slots of undergraduate and postgraduate foreign scholarship schemes.”

According to him, all the students have passed prescribed integrity and competency tests, including health and drugs tests.

He added that the students would study Medicine and Allied Sciences, Engineering, as well Robotics Studies in Indian universities.

In his presentation, Mu’azu Shamaki, said the lawmaker’s gesture had opened a new chapter of positive vision that created affordable and accessible education for his constituents.

Mr Shamaki said all the candidates were selected from the eight local government areas of Sokoto East Senatorial District, adding that the gesture was part of distinct efforts to improve education and professionalism in the state.

This, according to him, is with a view to guaranteeing a brighter and productive future for the younger generation.

”We concentrate our efforts to ensure a brighter future for the youth by providing opportunities in education, business skills empowerment, and agricultural programmes among others.

”This idea of scholarship to students being carried out without promoting any political sentiment is a testimony of kindness to people.

”It is also in fulfilment of APC wishes and aspirations aimed at providing quality education, eradicating poverty and encouraging self-reliance,” Mr Shamaki said.

He called on the successful students to be disciplined, dedicated and endeavour to be good ambassadors of the state and the nation at large.

“It is imperative to note that this programme is designed to showcase our unwavering commitment to the educational development of our youth.

”We are focusing our political ideology on building and empowering the youth to secure our future and the future of the society,” he said.

He said Mr Lamido had also provided JAMB forms to students, paid registration fees to students studying in different tertiary institutions in the country as well as provision of stipends to secondary schools in the senatorial zone.

”The senator has supported more than 2,000 students studying at different tertiary institutions across the country, provided motorcycles, business working tools and funds to youth and women for productive engagement in the district,” Mr Shamaki said.

He described Lamido as a role model, change agent and a leader with passion for education of his people and urged political leaders and wealthy Nigerians to emulate Mr Lamido’s efforts.

Speaking on behalf of benefiting parents, Isa Abdullahi-Gago, thanked Mr Lamido for the opportunity given to thier children and urged the students to refrain from all unruly behaviours.

Mr Abdullahi-Gago advised benefiting students to concentrate on their studies in view of the huge investment in them and charged them to reciprocate the gesture by supporting other students after graduation.

A student, Sanusi Abubakar, who gained scholarship to study medicine in India, commended Mr Lamido for the opportunity and promised to justify the confidence reposed in him.

The parents signed consent forms on behalf of their children drawn from Sabon Birni, Rabah, Illela, Gada, Goronyo, Wurno, Gwadabawa and Isa Local Government Areas.
