Nigerian-born Fikayo Tomori has joined AC Milan in a €28.5million permanent deal from Chelsea after the Milan team triggered his release clause.

The 5-year deal was signed on Wednesday after AC Milan took advantage of the release clause which was added in Tomori’s loan agreement, football transfer oracle Fabrizio Romano reported.

The Englishman of Nigerian parental descent moved on loan from Chelsea in January after being shut out of the starting lineup by former Chelsea manager Frank Lampard.

The 23-year-old won Chelsea’s goal of the 2019-2020 season award for his stunning volley against Wolves in the season where he featured 15 times in the league.

He kept 15 clean sheets featuring in Chelsea’s backline in all competitions with five coming consecutively while keeping his slate clean with not even a yellow card.

Tomori contributed immensely to the San Siro team who finished second behind Inter Milan in the 2020-2021 season, spurring the side to a UEFA Champions League berth.

The Milan board were impressed with Tomori’s display which also included his Man of the Match display in their away victory against Juventus where he scored once.

Tomori, who was also eligible to play for his country of birth, rebuffed interest from the Nigerian and Canadian football authorities to feature for the English national team.

He made a cameo debut for the Three Lions against Kosovo in the qualifiers for the Euro2020.

Tomori was however excluded from England’s contingent to the ongoing Euros.
