Delta Assembly passes amendment bill of University of Science and Technology, Ozoro

The Delta House of Assembly on Wednesday passed the University of Science and Technology, Ozoro Amendment Bill, 2021, into law.
The bill, if assented to by Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, shall reflect the change of name of the school from University of Science and Technology, Ozoro, to Southern Delta University, Ozoro.
The lawmakers passed the bill during plenary in Asaba following the adoption of its first, second and third readings, respectively.
Mr Oborevwori on Tuesday transmitted the bill through a letter to the Assembly for legislative action.
The majority leader of the Assembly, Emeka Nwaobi, moved for the suspension of Order 12, Rules 79-83 of the Standing Order of the House, to enable the House to take the third reading and passage of the bill.
The motion was seconded by Charles Emetulu (PDP-Ndokwa West).
The Speaker, Dennis Guwor (PDP-Warri South-West), put the motion to a voice vote and it was unanimously adopted by the lawmakers.
Mr Guwor commended the lawmakers for their commitment towards the passage of the bill, describing it as a welcome development.
He explained that the governing council of the institution had sought a change of name to Southern Delta University, Ozoro, to enable the institution to float other faculties as a conventional university.
