Nigerian teenagers arraigned for stealing cosmetics

On Thursday, two teenagers, Simon Okoro and Victor Gabriel, were docked before a Kaduna Chief Magistrates’ Court for stealing cosmetics worth N1.2 million.
Messrs Okoro and Gabriel, aged 19 and 18, are being prosecuted by the police on two counts of conspiracy and theft.
Each one pleaded not guilty to the charges preferred against them.
The prosecutor, Chidi Leo, told the court that the defendants and one other at large committed the alleged offences on November 9 at Barnawa Complex, Kaduna.
He alleged that the defendants broke into a shop owned by a woman, Anna Raymond, and stole cosmetic products worth N1.2 million.
Mr Leo said the defendants allegedly stole five cartons of Olive oil, four cartons of Dissar vitamin C oil, six cartons of Coconut oil, and 12 cartons of Pemei Vitamin C serum. Others are eight cartons of hair remover, 10 cartons of shampoo and 10 cartons of hair conditioner, all valued at N1.2 million.
The offence, the prosecutor said, contravened the provisions of sections 240 and 217 of the Penal Code of Kaduna State, 2017.
The magistrate, Ibrahim Emmanuel, admitted the defendants to bail in N200,000 each and two sureties each in like sum. He said the sureties must be employed, evidence of tax payment must be produced to the Kaduna State Government, and their addresses must be verified.
Mr Emmanuel further said that one of the sureties for either of the defendants must be a blood relation. He subsequently adjourned the case until December 9 for a hearing.
