EFCC arrests two over naira mutilation in Akwa Ibom

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has apprehended two suspects for allegedly mutilating naira notes Akwa Ibom State.

In a statement on its X handle on Wednesday, the anti-graft agency said the suspects were nabbed by its Special Task Force on Dollarisation and Currency Mutilation of its command in Uyo.

It said, “Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, have arrested two men in Uyo for alleged mutilation of the Nigerian naira notes.

“The suspects, Ejiofor Joseph Abuju and Temple Sunday Kachi, were arrested recently by officers of the Special Task Force on Dollarization and Currency Mutilation from the Uyo Zonal Directorate of the Commission.”

The EFCC said operatives carried out the operation after receiving credible intelligence on the suspects’ alleged involvement in the mutilation of the naira.

The anti-graft agency said the suspects, arrested at Flairmore Event Centre on Edet Akpan Avenue in Uyo, will be charged to court after the conclusion of the investigation.
