Austria says it is no longer dependent on Russian gas

Austria is no longer dependent on Russian gas, the country’s Vienna-based electricity and gas regulator reported on Friday.
Unlike Germany and other EU countries, the country had still drawn an average of 80 per cent of its gas needs from Russian sources this year.
It has now found other potential supply routes, the head of E-Control, Alfons Haber, said.
“Even if Russia stops its supplies, homes will not be cold either this winter or next,” he said.
Mr Haber added that this is due to high storage levels, which exceed 90 per cent, and also the possibility of supplies of liquefied natural gas via Germany and Italy.
Uncertainty over Russian gas supplies recently rose again.
