Governor Bala approves creation of Seyawa chiefdom

Governor Bala Mohammed has approved the creation of Seyawa Chiefdom with the headquarters in Tafawa Balewa LGA.
Mr Mohammed said this while addressing stakeholders from the area on Monday in Bauchi.
He said the decision was taken after carefully considering the report submitted by the committees set up to develop detailed modalities on how the chiefdom could be made.
The governor said the development was geared towards finding a lasting solution to the lingering problems around creating the new chiefdom in the last three decades.
Mr Mohammed expressed sadness over the loss of lives as a result of the violence that erupted in Tafawa Balewa and Bogoro over the agitation for the creation of Seyawa chiefdom out of the Bauchi Emirate.
“Upon the receipt of the committee’s reports, a white paper drafting committee was appointed to produce the government’s position on its various findings and recommendations,” said Mr Mohammed.
He added, “Another committee was appointed to go to three states, namely Plateau, Kaduna and Nasarawa, to study how their chiefdoms were created, their structures, and modes of succession, among others.
“The decision of the government is as follows: a chiefdom to be referred to as Seyawa chiefdom shall be created out of the present Bauchi emirate. The Seyawa chiefdom shall be headed by a chief to be designated as Gun Zaar.
“In the event of the stool of the Seyawa chiefdom becoming vacant, the appointment of the successive team shall be made from the two historical clans, namely, San Gami and San Gishi.”
According to him, vacancy will only occur in the event of death, removal by the government or resignation of the serving chief.
