Businessman arraigned for stealing 150 bags of cement

A 40-year-old businessman, Zubairu Halirua, was arraigned before a Kaduna Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday for stealing 150 bags of cement.
Mr Haliru of Kikinau Kaduna is charged with obtaining goods under false pretence and theft.
The prosecutor, Chidi Leo, informed the court that Mr Haliru committed the offence between February and September in Kaduna.
Mr Leo alleged that Mr Haliru obtained 150 bags of cement from Farouq Garba, worth N1.3 million, with the promise to remit after sales but refused to do so.
The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty.
The magistrate, Ibrahim Emmanuel, admitted the defendant to bail of N300,000 with two reliable sureties in like sum.
He said the sureties must reside within the jurisdiction of the court and must furnish the court with proof of tax payment to the Kaduna government.
Mr Emmanuel further said that one of the sureties must be a blood relative to the defendant and then adjourned the case until January 14, 2025, for a hearing.
