Newly promoted English Premier League club, Watford, has announced the signing of 23-year old Nigerian striker, Emmanuel Bonaventure Dennis, from Club Brugge.

The statement reads “the club is delighted to sign the scorer of 27 goals in just over 90 club appearances for Brugges, he has featured in the UEFA Champions League and Europa League and also twice for Nigeria’s Super Eagles.”

Dennis also scored five league goals in 15 appearances for FC Köln where he was loaned from Club Brugge in January 2021. His returns appeared to have created an impression on the Hornets.

The details of the fee involved for the player Club Brugge signed for €1.2 million in May 2017 are currently being finalised according to Watford’s statement.

Emerging from a football Academy in Abuja, Dennis got signed to Zorya Luhansk, an Ukrainian Club in 2016 and immediately created his mark by scoring in his debut game against Olimpik Donetsk in July 2016.

Dennis grabbed his debut appearance for the Super Eagles when he replaced Villarreal’s Samuel Chukwueze in a friendly match against Ukraine in September 2019 which ended in a 2-2 draw.

Scoring two goals at the Santiago Bernabeu against Real Madrid in the 2019 UEFA Champions League group stage match in 2019 got the Yola-born player some attention across Europe.

Dennis will be following the footsteps of Odion Ighalo who also signed and went on to excel with the Hornets while partnering with Troy Deeney at Watford.

Nigerians will be hoping Dennis impresses in the Premier League next season and emulate the goalscoring feat of in-form compatriot Kelechi Iheanacho who leads the line for Leicester.
