Police, Civil Defence promise to protect Lagos residents

Security operatives have assured Lagos residents of the safety of lives and property during Christmas and New Year celebrations.
They urged the residents to volunteer information that would aid their operations.
The operatives include those of the police, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps and the Fire Service. They gave the assurance at a workshop organised in Lagos by the New Horizons for Peace and Charity initiative.
NSCDC representative Adenike Adijat-Adisa said no fewer than 3,500 operatives had been deployed to ensure security at Christmas and New Year celebrations.
Ms Adijat-Adisa, NSCDC’s Amuwo Odofin Divisional Officer, frowned upon some Lagos residents’ nonchalant attitude to public infrastructure.
She urged the residents to watch over critical national assets to prevent vandalism.
The officer said NSCDC had the power to arrest, detain and prosecute. She warned people against vandalism of public infrastructure, saying that anyone caught would be punished.
Police representative CSP Ibrahim Ningi said the police were committed to serving Nigerians and would continue to ensure law and order.
Mr Ningi, attached to Area E command of the police command in Lagos State, appealed to the residents to volunteer useful information to aid police operations.
According to him, those who perpetrate crimes live among the people.
He praised NHFPC for organising the workshop, saying that it was in line with the mandate of the inspector-general of police to provide watertight security.
