Land Grabbing: Prosecutor’s absence stalls hearing of case against Oyo community leader
The alleged land-grabbing case against one community leader in Ibadan, Lawrence Ige, was stalled on Monday due to the prosecutor’s absence in court.
The case is being heard by Justice O. A. Adetujoye of the Oyo State High Court, Ring Road, Ibadan.
Mr Ige was arraigned on November 12 over an alleged conspiracy, land grabbing, unlawful encroachment and use of violence for land grabbing.
The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charges and was subsequently granted bail.
Mr Adetujoye adjourned the case till January 13, but the prosecution counsel, Williams Tijani, was absent in court.
In his absence, Mr Adetujoye adjourned the case till March 5 for the hearing.
The watching brief counsel for the nominal complainant, Oluwatobiloba Fatoki, had informed the court of the prosecutor’s absence due to a car breakdown on his way from Lagos.
The defendant’s counsel, John Adebisi, also confirmed the prosecutor’s absence for the same reason.
