The Nigeria Labour Congress, on Monday, closed down Lagos Television, Eko FM, Radio Lagos and Lagos Traffic Radio, over their failure to implement the recently approved N85,000 minimum wage.

The NLC, in collaboration with the workers under the Radio, Television, Theatre and Arts Workers Union of Nigeria, blocked the entrance and exit to the Agidingbi complex of the broadcast stations.

While picketing the stations, the protesters demanded to be placed on the Oracle System. They carried placards with inscriptions such as: “Give us Oracle and take the revenue generated,” “Oracle is the answer; it’s all we need,” “Pay us Minimum Wage,” etc.

The chairman of the state chapter of NLC, Funmi Sessi, who led the protesters, told journalists that the management had not responded to their demands since three weeks ago when workers indicated their resolve to stage a protest.

Ms Sessi said, “We are here this morning; you can see the workers of government in communication departments, that is, LTV, Eko FM, Traffic Radio, all here to show their displeasure against the injustice that is being meted out to them.

“They work to the best of their abilities and are now at the receiving end by being shortchanged. And not receiving the new minimum wage as being approved and agreed by the law set by the federal government of Nigeria.

“After several engagements with management, they gave 14 days, then seven days. They followed due process, yet there was no resolution. Now, when they saw that the workers are resolute to fight for their rights, they are saying, ‘Sheathe your sword’.”

Ms Sessi vowed that the workers would continue with the protest until their demands were met. She urged Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu to prevail on the management to do the needful to avoid unnecessary disruption to operations.
