MSNBC president Rashida Jones steps down ahead of Donald Trump’s inauguration

Rashida Jones, the president of the American television network MSNBC, has stepped down from her position in a major change at the company ahead of President-elect Donald Trump’s inauguration on January 20.
“Rebecca is the ideal leader to guide us through this moment, and I look forward to collaborating with her as we shape our collective future together,” Mark Lazarus, the chairman of NBCUniversal Media Group, said in a note to staffers.
MSNBC was the most cable news network during the United States presidential election, but the company’s rating has continued to decline. The cable news industry has been on rapid decline in recent years.
Ms Jones spent over one decade at the network, where she previously oversaw daytime and weekend news programming. She will stay on in an advisory role through March.
Meanwhile, senior vice president for content strategy, Rebecca Kutler, will succeed Ms Jones as interim president, effective immediately.
