One arrested as NAFDAC seals pharmacy for selling expired drugs in Abuja

The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has arrested the managing director of a pharmacy allegedly selling expired and unregistered drugs in Abuja.
“NAFDAC has sealed off a pharmacy located at Onitsha Crescent, Area 11 – Garki, Abuja, for selling expired and unregistered drugs,” NAFDAC said in a statement on Saturday.
According to the statement, the agency’s enforcement team raided the pharmacy following a tip-off from a concerned citizen.
During the operation, the team, “uncovered several expired items worth over seven million naira, including expired “H-Pylori” test kits, which posed significant risks to public health.”
Although the saff of the pharmacy were said to have attempted to observe their operation, NAFDAC’s enforcement team were still able to confiscate the expired products and secured the premises.
“The pharmacy’s Managing Director and Superintendent Pharmacist were arrested for further questioning, while stringent sanctions will be imposed as a deterrent to unethical practices.”
The agency, while advising the public to remain vigilant when buying regulated products, urged them to report suspicious activities to any of its offices.
