NSCDC nabs KEDCO employee for allegedly stealing prepaid-meter in Katsina

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Katsina State Command, has arrested a member of staff of the Kano Electricity Distribution Company for allegedly stealing a prepaid meter.
Briefing journalists in Katsina on Tuesday, the command’s spokesman, SC Buhari Hamisu, said the suspect was accused of trespass, tampering with the meter and theft.
Mr Hamisu said that the suspect, 38, an employee of KEDCO, Daura Regional Office, was arrested following a report by Lawal Gadi of Tundun wada Quarters in Daura, that the worker removed his meter
The spokesman said that the meter, which was found in the possession of the suspect, who resides at Low Cost Housing Estate, Daura, would be tendered as exhibit during his prosecution.
He said, “The commandant assures of adequate security in the state as the command will not relent in its commitments to uncover activities of vandals, economic saboteurs and other criminals in the state. The Commandant, Aminu Ahmad-Datti, thanks the general public for the continuous cooperation and urges for more support to security agencies by providing actionable and timely intelligence that will help uncover the activities of miscreants in the state. The command remains dedicated to ensuring a peaceful atmosphere for the good people of Katsina State and Nigeria as a whole. Vandals, thieves and those tempering with private property posed much danger to the socio-economic well-being of our society and must be flushed out of Katsina State for the safety of all.’’
Responding to questions by journalists, the suspect confessed to committing the crime, saying that it was an abandoned three-faced prepaid meter he removed.
Contacted, Head of Corporate Communications of KEDCO, Sani Bala-Sani, said he was not aware of the incident, but promised to find out.
