Pep Guardiola acknowledged that Manchester City “could not cope” with Paris Saint-Germain after surrendering a two-goal lead to lose 4-2 in their Champions League clash on Wednesday. The defeat at the Parc des Princes leaves City’s hopes of advancing in the tournament hanging by a thread.

“They were better. We have to accept it. We have the last chance at home against Bruges. We will do everything there and if we don’t, it is because we don’t deserve it,” Guardiola said post-match. “They were better, we have to accept it. It’s sport, and it is like that.”

City initially looked in control after Jack Grealish and Erling Haaland scored early in the second half. However, PSG mounted a stunning comeback.

Ousmane Dembélé reduced the deficit, Bradley Barcola equalized, and Joao Neves put the hosts ahead with a header in the 78th minute. Gonçalo Ramos then sealed the victory in stoppage time.

With only the top 24 teams advancing to the knockout phase, City’s fate now hinges on their final group fixture. A win against Club Brugge at home next Wednesday should be enough for the reigning Premier League champions to secure a spot in the play-off round.

Before that, City face a crucial Premier League match against Chelsea on Saturday as they continue their fight for a top-four domestic finish.

“I knew it would be tough. PSG is an exceptional team. We could not cope,” Guardiola admitted, noting that PSG’s additional presence in midfield played a decisive role.

He added, “I would like to say differently, but when one team plays better, you have to accept it. Now we have to prepare for a tough game against Chelsea and, of course, the final against Brugge. Try to move forward. I know the players gave everything.”

There are also concerns over Ruben Dias, who was substituted at halftime in Paris.

Guardiola said, “He asked to be replaced because he didn’t feel good.”

Dias had only recently returned from injury, leaving his availability for the upcoming fixtures in doubt.
