The Mapo chief magistrates’ court in Ibadan has ordered that Olanrewaju Adetunji, a 22-year-old man, be remanded in Agodi Correctional Centre for allegedly stealing a phone worth N75,000.

The magistrate, O.O. Latunji, ordered Mr Adetunji to be remanded in Agodi Correctional Centre after he could not perfect the N100,000 bail condition with two reliable sureties, which the court granted him.

Ms Latunji subsequently adjourned the suit until March 11 for a hearing. Mr Adetunji had pleaded not guilty to the one-count charge of stealing.

Earlier, the prosecution counsel, Insp Oluseye Akinola, told the court that the defendant committed the crime on January 21 in the Beere area of Ibadan.

Mr Akinola added that the defendant was arrested after one Olamilekan Adeleke reported to the police that Mr Adetunji stole his Infinix Alt20 phone valued at N75,000.

The prosecutor said the offence contravened Section 390(9) of the Criminal Code, Cap. 38, Vol. ii, Law of Oyo State of Nigeria.
