After thugs disrupted the Edo election tribunal sitting last week, the tribunal has been relocated to continue its sittings in Abuja.

Muazu Bagudu, the tribunal secretary, announced this development in a memo circulated on social media on Friday.

“I am directed to notify all parties that the Governorship Election Petition Tribunal sitting in Benin City, Edo State, has been relocated to Abuja,” Mr. Bagudu said.

Subsequent tribunal sittings will hold “at the National Judicial Institute (NJI), Airport Road, Abuja, effective from Monday, 27th January 2025.”

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and its candidate in the last governorship election, Asue Ighodalo, are challenging the declaration by the Independent National Electoral Commission of Governor Monday Okpebholo of the All Progressives Congress as the winner.

Both parties have accused each other of sponsoring thugs who disrupted the tribunal sitting last week.
