Impeached speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Mudashiru Obasa, has said he remains speaker of the assembly.

Mr Obasa spoke on Saturday at a welcome reception organised by his supporters at the Joel Ogunnaike GRA residence in Ikeja.

Speaking with journalists regarding his status after addressing his supporters, Mr Obasa, who was replaced by Mojisola Meranda, in response to his impeachment on January 13, 2025, said his removal was done wrongly.

“My status in the house? I strongly believe I am still the speaker until the right thing has been done. If you want to remove me, remove me the proper way and I will not contest it. I’m a Muslim and I believe in fate. But let’s do it the way it should be done,” Mr Obasa said.

Asked if he would seek redress in court over his impeachment, Mr Obasa, who had been Speaker since 2015, said, “You will know. It’s a matter of time. Thank you and God bless you.”

Mr Obasa’s return to the state came almost two weeks after 32 members of the 40-member house unanimously removed him from office over alleged fraud, gross misconduct and abuse of office.
