Senatorial aspirant mourns kidnapped Anambra lawmaker found dead on 2nd Niger Bridge

Mr Nwosu described the death as a devastating blow to the late Azuka family, his constituency and Anambra State as a whole.

Young Progressives Party aspirant in the Anambra South Senatorial District by-election, Samben Nwosu, has expressed shock over the death of kidnapped Anambra State House of Assembly member, Justice Azuka.

Mr Azuka represented Onitsha North 1 Constituency in the state House of Assembly.

He was kidnapped on December 24, 2024 and founded dead by a team of police and Anambra Vigilance Group, on Wednesday.  

The Police Public Relations Officer, Anambra State Police Command, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, had said that the team went to rescue Mr Azuka but found his lifeless body.

In a condolence statement to journalists in Awka on Thursday, Mr Nwosu said that he was saddened by Mr Azuka’s death.

He described the death as a devastating blow to the late Azuka family, his constituency and Anambra State as a whole.

 He also sympathised with the speaker and members of the Anambra House of Assembly for the loss.

The aspirant said that the late Azuka’s dedication to the service of his constituency members and his commitment to the development of Anambra would not be forgotten.

He called for a collective action to achieve a safe and secure society.

He said, “His untimely death is a reminder of the risks and sacrifices made by public servants. We will honour his memory by continuing to work towards a better future for all. I extend my heartfelt condolences to his immediate family members, who are going through a terrible moment. May God provide them with the strength and comfort they need to navigate this difficult time. May Justice Azuka’s soul rest in peace and may his legacy continue to inspire us to strive for a better tomorrow.’’
