Flutterwave, Africa’s foremost payments technology company, has released its Send App 2024 Remittance Industry Report, shedding light on the critical role of cross-border remittances in supporting communities and fostering global connections.

The report provides a comprehensive analysis of evolving trends in digital money transfers and showcases the latest milestones achieved by Send App, reinforcing Flutterwave’s position as a leader in cross-border payments.

Insights from the Report

The study reveals that 83.2% of remittance users are between the ages of 18 and 34, with a significant number having family members living abroad. Europe (33.6%), North America (25.4%), and Asia (13.4%) are the primary destinations for African diaspora communities.

Additionally, 30% of respondents have friends and family living within Africa but outside their home countries, highlighting the potential for growth in intra-Africa remittances.

Remittances continue to serve as a vital financial lifeline, with nearly half of the funds received being used for essential needs such as food, rent, and utilities.

The remaining funds are allocated to education, business investments (10.8%), and cultural celebrations, underscoring the dual emotional and economic value of these transfers.

The report also notes that remittances are typically sent bi-weekly or at the end of the month, aligning with paydays abroad.

Diaspora Influence and Top Recipient Nations

London stands out as the largest customer base for Send App users in the UK, reflecting its sizable African diaspora population. On the receiving end, Nigeria leads as the top remittance destination, followed by Kenya and Cameroon, demonstrating the increasing demand for efficient cross-border payment solutions across the continent.

Send App’s 2024 Achievements

In 2024, Send App expanded its services to 49 U.S. states, marking a significant milestone in its mission to serve Africans in the diaspora. The platform also achieved a 98% transaction completion rate in under five minutes and introduced new features, including GBP payee confirmation and advanced fraud detection.

These enhancements highlight Send App’s focus on delivering fast, secure, and compliant remittance services.

Conclusion

Flutterwave’s Send App 2024 Remittance Industry Report underscores the transformative impact of customer-centric innovations in global money transfers. By making remittances faster, more secure, and more accessible, Flutterwave continues to bridge the gap between Africa and the global economy, ensuring seamless cross-border transactions for Africans both at home and abroad.
