FG demands UK probe police killing of Nigerian footballer
The federal government has demanded that the UK should probe the police killing of a Nigerian footballer.
Kelvin Igweani, the victim, was killed by a UK policeman.
Abike Dabiri-Erewa, chairman of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM), condemned the killing of Mr Igweani by the British police.
Ms Dabiri-Erewa called for the probe in a statement issued by NIDCOM’s spokesman Abdur-Rahman Balogun in Abuja on Wednesday.
Mr Igweani was shot dead by officers, who attended to a call at a house where a child was found with serious injuries.
The NIDCOM chief described the incident as unfortunate, calling on the UK government to conduct a thorough investigation regarding the incident.
She condoled with the family of the deceased and the Nigerian community in the UK.
Thames Valley Police said officers were called to a property at Two Mile Ash North-West Milton Keynes on June 26 and made a forced entry after acting on information from a witness.
It added that inside they found a man in his 30s who was later confirmed dead and a young child with serious injuries.
They also found out that the officers deployed a taser before shots were fired at Mr Igweani, leading to his death.
