The Area Court in Jos has sentenced an unemployed man, Tuagat Moses,   to six months’ imprisonment for stealing six phones worth N1.4 million.

The judge, Shawomi Bokkos, sentenced the convict after he pleaded guilty to theft.

The judge, however, gave the convict an option of N10,000 fine.

The judge also ordered the convict to pay N1.4 million to the complainant and, in default, spend 18 months in prison.

The police prosecutor, Ijuptil Daniel, told the court that the case was reported at the State Intelligent Department Jos on December  18, 2024, by Mr Auwal Umar.

He said that the convict stole an iPhone 13, Techno Cannon 20, Redmi A3, Samsung A12, and Giones M7 from the complainant’s shop when he was called to fix his faulty MP3 player.

The offence, he said, contravened the provisions of the Plateau Penal Code law of Northern Nigeria.
