NCoS partners livestock ministry to improve economy

The Nigerian Correctional Service says it’s partnering the Federal Ministry of Livestock Development to harness the service’s farmlands for viable economic development.
The acting controller-general of NCoS, Sylvester Nwakuche, said this when he visited the Minister of Livestock Development, Idi Maiha. This was disclosed in a statement on Tuesday.
Mr Nwakuche said the visit was to explore a groundbreaking collaboration between the NCoS and the ministry.
He said the focus was to harness the service’s farmlands into viable economic hubs. He congratulated Mr Maiha on his appointment as the pioneer minister of the ministry and thanked him for the warm reception.
“The correction’s farms are part of the service’s reformatory efforts, providing inmates with a lifetime opportunity for rehabilitation upon discharge,” he said.
Mr Nwakuche later presented an overview of the NCoS agricultural projects and production activities across the country to the ministry boss.
He said they are seeking a strategic partnership with the ministry to reposition the farm centres for greater productivity.
Mr Maiha expressed delight in the partnership, saying that the NCoS agricultural assets offer a unique opportunity for growth, with secured farmlands and available labour.
He commended Mr Nwakuche for his visionary leadership and pledged the ministry’s support towards actualising the mandates of the service through strategic partnership.
The development is expected to boost the Nigerian agricultural sector and provide inmates a fresh start upon their release.
