Police threaten to deal with Igboho, Akintoye, supporters who participate in Lagos rally
Yoruba sovereign nation agitators have been warned by the police in Lagos not to hold any rally under any guise in any part of Lagos and have been advised not to come to the state.
The Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Hakeem Odumosu, issued the stern warning to Sunday Igboho andProfessor Banji Akintoye at a news conference in Alausa, Ikeja, Lagos on Thursday.
Igboho has been leading agitations for the realisation of Yoruba, alongside a group headed by foremost historian Mr Akintoye.
Mr Odumosu while warning the organisers and their followers explained that the decision was for the interest of the state and the general public.
He promised that the command will within the ambit of the law, deal with anyone caught participating or facilitating any rally.
Mr Odumosu said, “on no account will any actual or rumoured activities including the said planned mega rally be allowed to lockdown the state or hinder normal daily activities of the good people of Lagos State.”
He revealed that the police command had received an intelligence report that some disgruntled elements were planning to infiltrate the protesters and perpetuate violence and loot properties.
He also added: “It has also come to the knowledge of the command that the rally arranged to take place at Gani Fawehimi Freedom Park, Ojota, Lagos, has been planned by some other yet-to-be identified groups to simultaneously take place in Lekki Toll Gate, Ikoyi, Iyana-Ipaja, Ikeja, Surulere, Ikorodu and other areas. This, if allowed, could be a fatal ground to anarchy.
“Intelligence also reveals that Elewe-Omo, a transport Union Leader in Ibadan, Oyo State, has perfected plan to attack the organisers of the rally as a reappraisal attack to the death of one of his followers allegedly killed by Sunday Igboho’s group during a similar rally organised in Ibadan, Oyo State sometimes ago.
“The cumulative effect of all these is threat to law and order in the state. The Command will not fold its hands and allow disgruntled elements to truncate the peace being enjoyed in the state.
The command hereby appeals to the general public, especially Lagosians to shun the rally while parents and guardians are urged to discourage their children and wards from participating in the rally.”
