Court remands two over iron rods theft

A Grade A Customary Court sitting in Mapo, Ibadan, on Friday remanded two men, Asimiyu Ajimoti and Sulaimon Adetunji, in a correctional centre for allegedly stealing iron rods worth N202,000.
The defendants had pleaded not guilty to a two-count charge of conspiracy and stealing.
The court’s president, S.M. Akintayo, remanded the duo pending the fulfilment of their bail conditions.
Ms Akintayo had admitted each defendant to N200,000 bail with two reliable sureties in like sum.
She added that the sureties must provide evidence of two years’ tax payment to the Oyo State government and present their valid identity cards.
Ms Akintayo adjourned the case until April 28 for trial.
Earlier, the prosecutor, Insp Ayodele Ayeni, told the court that the defendants committed the offences on March 1 at about 5:00 p.m. in the University College Hospital (UCH) area of Ibadan.
He said the defendants entered the premises of a company, Quedriga Ltd. and stole iron rods valued at N202,000.
The prosecutor said the offences contravened sections 516 and 390 (9) of the Criminal Code, Cap 38 vol. ii Law of Oyo State, 2000.
