United States President Donald Trump has invited South African white farmers fleeing prosecution to move to the U.S. alongside their families, assuring them a rapid pathway to citizenship amid claims of land confiscation.

“Any farmer (with family!) from South Africa, seeking to flee that country for reasons of safety, will be invited into the United States of America with a rapid pathway to citizenship.

This process will begin immediately!” Mr Trump said in a post on Truth Social on Friday.

Mr Trump’s latest comments were a reference to the new land expropriation bill signed into law by South African President Cyril Ramaphosa last month.

During the tirade between Mr Trump and Mr Ramaphosa last month, the South African government argued that the bill only aims to make privately owned land available for important public projects.

However, Mr Trump insisted the law targets white South Africans, saying the government is “confiscating land and treating certain classes of people very badly,” and subsequently ordered the pause of all foreign aid to South Africa.

Mr Trump added, “South Africa is being terrible, plus, for a long time, farmers in the country. They are confiscating their land and farms, and much worse than that. A bad place to be right now, and we are stopping all federal funding.”
