Lagos task force impounds 79 motorcycles on highways

The Lagos State Environmental and Special Offences Enforcement Unit has impounded 79 commercial motorcycles commonly known as ‘Okada’ for plying highways.
The state police, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, made this known to newsmen on Thursday in Lagos.
He said the operation was in line with the agency’s continued efforts to enforce the ban of motorcycles in some parts of the state.
Mr Hundeyin said, “On Wednesday, the agency embarked on its daily routine enforcement of a ban on commercial motorcycles across major highways and restricted routes in the state. The operation, which started around 11.00 a. m., was carried out in areas such as Berger Suya, Kirikiri road, 2nd Rainbow bridge, Apple junction inward Festac. A total of 79 commercial motorcycles were impounded in the areas visited.’’
He stated that the operation was hitch-free except in the Berger Suya area of the state.
He noted, “The operation was hitch-free except in Berger Suya where there was a pocket of resistance which was matched with minimal force and tactical superiority of our men. However, in all the areas visited, the operation was conducted with the highest degree of civility and professionalism.’’
