Ibadan boy arrested, remanded for illegal firearm possession

On Monday, an Iyaganku Magistrates’ Court, Ibadan, ordered the remand of 19-year-old Adebowale Bashiru and Nureni Olalere, 47, Ibrahim Ojo, 32, in a correctional facility over alleged possession of firearms.
The three, whose addresses were not provided, were charged with conspiracy and unlawful possession of firearms and ammunition.
The magistrate, Gladys Oladele, did not take the defendants’ plea for want of jurisdiction.
She directed the police to return the case file to the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) for legal advice.
She adjourned the case until April 4 for mention.
The prosecutor, Oluwafemi Ajayi, told the court that the defendants committed the offences on March 5 at noon in Iseyin.
Mr Ajayi said the defendants had in their possession two cut-to-size barrel guns and two live cartridges without lawful authority.
He said the offences contravened Sections 3, 6(b) of the Robbery and Firearms (Special Provisions) Act, 2004.
