Overstaying visa could lead to permanent ban, U.S. warns Nigerians

The United States government through its mission in Nigeria has issued a stern warning to travellers on the consequence of a prolonged stay in the U.S upon the expiration of their visa.
The U.S. Mission Nigeria Monday, on X, announced that travellers who overstay their visa in the U.S. could face a permanent ban from the country.
“If you overstay your U.S. visa, you could face a permanent ban on traveling to the United States.
Consular officers have full access to your immigration history and will know about past violations. There is no such thing as an “honest mistake” – it is your responsibility to use your visa correctly,” the U.S. government said.
The immigration authorities clarified that the U.S. consular officers can access a traveller’s history which will make it nearly impossible to avoid penalties for past violations.
The statement further emphasised that travellers are responsible for adhering to the terms of their visa and that ignorance of visa regulations will not be accepted as an excuse.
