Iran’s Islamic Revolution Guards Corps smashed a “terrorist” group affiliated with the Islamic State (IS) in the western province of Kurdestan, killing all its members.

The IRGC Ground Force’s Hamzeh Seyyed Al-Shohada Base said this in a statement.

The group’s members, who were foreign nationals trained by the IS, sought to carry out suicide attacks in the province during Nowruz holidays, the statement indicated.

Nowruz holidays are celebrations of the start of the new year on the Persian calendar that began on March 21.

It said the members were identified by the provincial security and intelligence organisations.

It added that the IRGC’s operation was timely and decisive.

There was no specification or the exact number of the “terrorists” or the date of the operation.
