Terrorists carrying out genocide in Plateau, says Governor Muftwang

“The question is, who are the persons behind the organisers of this terrorism? This is what the security agencies must help us to unravel,” said the governor.

Governor Caleb Muftwang has described recent killings in the state as genocide executed by terrorists, adding not less than 64 communities have been taken over by bandits.

“I can tell you in all honesty that I cannot find any explanation other than genocide sponsored by terrorists,” said Mr Mutfwang in an interview on Channels TV on Tuesday night. “The question is, who are the persons behind the organisers of this terrorism? This is what the security agencies must help us to unravel.”

The Plateau governor added, “As I am talking to you, there are not less than 64 communities that have been taken over by bandits on the Plateau. They have been taken over, renamed, and people are living there conveniently on lands they pushed people away to occupy.”

Mr Muftwang explained that these recently attacked communities were part of the communities raided in 2023.

“The Ruwi community that was first attacked lost about 17 people in 2023, but they bounced back to show you the resilience of the people,” said the governor.

Earlier on Tuesday, Governor Babagana Zulum cried out that Borno is losing ground to Boko Haram terrorists, who now raid communities and kidnap residents without confrontation from the Nigerian military.

“As I address this important gathering today, it is unfortunate that the renewed Boko Haram attacks and kidnappings in many communities, almost on a daily basis without confrontation, signalled that Borno State is losing ground,” Mr Zulum said.
