Gov. Umar Namadi of Jigawa has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to improve educational outcomes in the state.

Mr Namadi said this during a courtesy visit to Aisha Garba, executive secretary, Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC), on Friday in Abuja.

The visit focused on strengthening partnership between the state and the UBEC, with emphasis on addressing critical challenges in the basic education sector.

Mr Namadi called for deeper collaboration to tackle pressing issues such as maintenance of infrastructure and teacher shortage.

He highlighted innovative strategies being employed by the state to boost school enrolment, particularly the engagement of women as community influencers and mobilisers.

The governor noted that women were playing a pivotal role in raising awareness about the importance of education and encouraging parents to enroll their children, especially girls, in school.

Responding, Ms Garba lauded the state for ensuring prompt payment of counterpart funds, effective implementation of UBEC-supported projects, and commitment to transparency.

Ms Garba reiterated the commitment of President Bola Tinubu towards providing support to the state governments in line with the ongoing efforts to transform basic education in the country.

She underscored the importance of collaboration, and the need to prioritise delivery of quality education, noting that Jigawa’s dedication had earned it increased financial support and greater access to intervention funds.

According to Ms Garba, the commission plans to launch targeted programmes aimed at improving the skills of teachers and education managers, to enhance service delivery and learning outcomes at the basic education level.
