The Ota Magistrates’ Court in Ogun on Monday remanded a 30-year-old man, Timothy Adebayo, in a correctional facility for allegedly stealing electrical wires worth N12 million.

Mr Adebayo, whose address was not provided, is facing a three-count charge of stealing, damage and conspiracy, to which he pleaded not guilty.

The prosecutor, E.O. Adaraloye, told the court that the defendant and others now at large committed the offences at about 2:30 a.m. on January 17, at Alafia Morica St., Adeleye Itele, Ota.

Mr Adaraloye said the defendant broke into an uncompleted building belonging to the complainant, Akinyemi Kemosola, and stole the items.

He added that the defendant damaged electrical wires and conduit pipes while stealing the items.

The prosecutor said the offences contravened sections 390(9), 451 and 516 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Ogun, 2006.

The magistrate, O.O. Fadairo, ordered that the defendant be remanded in the Ibara Correctional Centre to stop him from absconding.

She adjourned the case until May 12 for judgment.
