Kano distributes 120,000 cartons of chalk to public schools

The Kano State Government on Thursday distributed 120,000 cartons of chalk to schools across the state.
Speaking during the distribution exercise on the premises of the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), the Commissioner for Education, Dr Ali Makoda, said the initiative aligned with the current administration’s resolve to prioritise education and improve the sector.
Mr Makoda said the intervention was a demonstration of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf’s continued commitment to overhauling the education sector by providing essential teaching and learning materials.
He said, “The administration is determined to ensure a conducive and effective teaching atmosphere. What we are witnessing today is a clear demonstration of our commitment to the education sector.’’
The commissioner recalled that in October 2023, Mr Yusuf inaugurated the distribution of instructional materials worth billions of naira to schools across the 44 local government areas of the state.
The items included textbooks, exercise books, whiteboards, whiteboard markers, school bags, sandals and uniforms.
He urged school heads to ensure the judicious use of the chalks.
Also speaking, the Chairman of SUBEB, Yusuf Kabir, commended the government for its sustained efforts to reposition education in the state.
He assured the commissioner that the chalks would be distributed to all the designated schools for proper utilisation.
The event was attended by officials from the Ministry of Education, SUBEB, and other stakeholders in the education sector.
