Troops nab 55-year-old suspected kidnapper in Kano, recover arms

Troops of the Joint Task Force, Tundun Wada, have arrested a 55-year-old suspected kidnapper, during a security operation in Sumana village, Tundun Wada Local Government Area of Kano State.
The arrest is contained in a statement to journalists by Assistant Director, Army Public Relations, 3 Brigade, Capt. Babatunde Zubairu, of Kano on Tuesday.
According to the statement, the suspect was apprehended on April 20.
The statement noted that the suspect was paraded before the Brigade Commander, Brig.-Gen. Ahmed Tukur, who celebrated the Easter festivals with troops of Forward Operating Base (FOB) Falgore, in Doguwa LGA, Kano.
It noted that the commander lauded the troops for their bravery and professionalism.
According to the statement, a cache of arms, ammunition and other critical items were recovered during the operation.
It noted that items recovered included one fabricated AK-47 rifle, one Den gun, nine rounds of 9mm pistol ammunition, and one woodland camouflage uniform.
Also recovered are one desert camouflage, one woodland camouflage vest and a Bajaj motorcycle seat, suspected to be used for concealing weapons.
The statement said Mr Tukur lauded the efforts of the troops, reaffirming the commitment of the Nigerian Army and other security agencies, to collaborate with authorities in restoring peace and security, across communities.
It quoted the commander as saying that the operation marked another significant milestone in the ongoing fight against criminals threatening peace in the region.
It stated, “The army remains dedicated to its mandate of safeguarding lives and property. We will not relent in our efforts to bring perpetrators of criminal acts to justice.’’
The statement noted that the suspect was currently in custody and undergoing preliminary investigation.
