Guard arraigned over alleged theft of marine boards worth N756,000

A 36-year-old man, Idris Sheriff, was on Thursday, arraigned before a Life Camp Chief Magistrates’ Court, Abuja, over alleged theft of marine boards valued at N756,000.
Idris, a security guard, who resides at Agwan Chairman Ado, Nasarawa State, is charged with criminal conspiracy, Negligence and theft.
The Prosecutor, Charity Nwachukwu, told the court that the complainant, Amaechi Prince of Nwaja Close, Phase 4, Kuwba, Abuja, reported the matter at the Life Camp Police Station on Jan. 21.
Ms Nwachukwu said that the defendant, a security guard at Coded African Network Company Associate Estate, Idu Abuja, committed the offences on January 20.
She said that the defendant conspired with others now at large, and stole 27 marine boards valued at N756,000, belonging to the company.
Ms Nwachukwu said that during police investigation, the defendant said that though he was on duty, he was asleep when the marine boards were stolen.
The prosecutor said that the offence contravened Section 96, 196 and 288 of the penal code.
The Chief Magistrate, Musa Jobbo, admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of 500,000, and a surety in like sum.
Mr Jobbo ordered that the sureties must reside within the court jurisdiction, and adjourned the matter until May 26 for hearing.
