Harry Kane gets first major trophy as Bayern Munich win 34th Bundesliga title

Bayern Munich have officially reclaimed the Bundesliga title for a record-extending 34th time, ending Harry Kane’s long wait for his first major trophy.
Vincent Kompany’s side were confirmed champions on Sunday without even kicking a ball, after Bayer Leverkusen dropped points in a dramatic 2-2 draw away at Freiburg.
Bayern had played out an incredible 3-3 draw against RB Leipzig a day earlier, coming from two goals down to lead before conceding a stoppage-time equaliser. That result meant Leverkusen had to beat Freiburg to keep their faint title hopes alive—but they couldn’t get the job done.
Freiburg went two goals up through Maximilian Eggestein and an own goal by Piero Hincapie, before Florian Wirtz and Jonathan Tah pulled Leverkusen level late on.
However, the third goal they desperately needed never came.
Bayern are now eight points clear of Bayer Leverkusen with only two games remaining. The title is mathematically sealed, and England captain Harry Kane will finally lift silverware after years of near-misses with Spurs.
Kane, who missed the Leipzig clash through suspension, watched the match from the sidelines with a group of Bayern teammates back in Munich.
He’s set to return to the pitch on Saturday against Borussia Mönchengladbach, where Bayern will receive the Bundesliga shield in front of their home fans.
Leverkusen boss Xabi Alonso—who lifted three Bundesliga titles as a Bayern player—praised his former club, saying, “They were the more consistent team this season. It’s a deserved championship.”
With their title challenge now over, Leverkusen may turn their attention to the futures of Alonso and star midfielder Florian Wirtz, both of whom are reportedly attracting interest from top clubs across Europe.
Defender Jonathan Tah, who has confirmed his exit this summer after 10 years at the club, admitted his side lacked energy in the first half: “It didn’t work today.”
Despite the disappointment, Leverkusen extended their unbeaten away run to 33 matches—matching a Bundesliga record held by Bayern—and remained second in the table.
