Russian authorities have detained six people suspected of planning armed attacks on educational institutions in the cities of Moscow and Tyumen, local media reported on Thursday.

The arrests followed a series of preventive and awareness-raising operations carried out across Russia.

The nationwide campaign aimed to curb the spread of ideologies promoting mass violence and suicide among youth, RIA Novosti news agency reported the Federal Security Service as saying.

Searches at the suspects’ residences led to the seizure of components for improvised explosive and incendiary devices, bladed weapons, detailed plans for attacks, and materials linked to neo-Nazi and terrorist organisations.

In addition to thwarting planned attacks in Moscow and Tyumen, the operations uncovered violent plots in Kemerovo, Rostov-on-Don, and Yoshkar-Ola, the FSB said.
