European leaders are set to meet in Tirana on Friday to address some of the continent’s most pressing issues, including the war in Ukraine, migration, and economic competitiveness.

More than 40 leaders had been invited to the Albanian capital for the sixth meeting of the European Political Community.

Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama and European Council president António Costa will co-host the summit.

Discussions will focus on shared security challenges, innovation, economic resilience, migration policy, and youth opportunities.

The meeting will also mark German Chancellor Friedrich Merz’s first major international summit since taking office a week ago.

French President Emmanuel Macron initiated the EPC following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine to foster dialogue and cooperation among European nations, both within and outside the European Union, without the formalities of traditional state visits.

The EPC first convened in Prague in October 2022 and last met in Budapest in November 2024.

Russia and Belarus are not invited to participate in the gatherings.
