Ibadan: Court remands 11 men over murder, arson

An Iyaganku Magistrates’ Court, Ibadan, on Tuesday ordered the remand of 11 men in prison custody over an alleged murder.
The accused are Alim Olumuyi, 51; Lateef Kareem, 60; Kazeem Adeyemo, 52; Oderinde Adedayo, 45; Idowu Oladipupo, 50; Tijani Akanmu, 50; Yakub Oyelahan, 65; Michael Abiodun, 57; Akeem Akande, 45; Kazeem Oke, 48; and Ishola Adebayo, 60.
They were charged with a five-count charge bordering on conspiracy, murder and arson.
The magistrate, Gladys Oladele, did not take the defendants’ plea for want of jurisdiction.
She directed the police to return the case file to the director of public prosecution for legal advice.
The magistrate adjourned the case until June 16 for mention.
The prosecutor, Samuel Owolabi, told the court that the defendants committed the offences on March 7, in the Lagelu area of Ibadan.
Mr Owolabi alleged that the defendants unlawfully caused the death of Segun Babatunde by shooting him.
He also alleged that the defendants set fire to buildings worth N150 million in the area and damaged a tractor worth N120 million, belonging to Idowu Biliaminu, by setting it ablaze.
