Ex-convict remanded over theft of valuables worth N595,000

The magistrate ordered the remand of the defendant because he was an ex-convict and may abscond if granted bail.

The Ota Magistrates’ Court in Ogun, on Monday, remanded an ex-convict, Habeeb Jimoh, 24, for allegedly breaking into a bar and stealing a Zealot speaker, an Infinix phone and other valuables worth N595,000.

Mr Jimoh, whose address was not provided, pleaded not guilty to the charge of stealing.

The magistrate, O.O. Fadairo, ordered that the defendant be remanded in the correctional centre because he was an ex-convict and may abscond if granted bail.

She adjourned the case until June 3 for further hearing.

Earlier, the prosecutor, E.O. Adaraloye, said the defendant had broken into the bar and stolen items belonging to Tosin Okegbenro.

She said the offences contravened section 390 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Ogun, 2006.
