Despite wanton killings in Benue, youths held a rally in support of President Bola Tinubu and Governor Alia Hyacinth.

On Thursday, hordes of supporters of Messrs Tinubu and Alia marched with banners in Markudi, the state capital.

Their banners praised the president and the governor as ‘heroes of democracy’, as Nigeria marked its Democracy Day on June 12.

The rally comes amid widespread killings in Benue that has left thousands displaced in recent times.

Amnesty International, in a recent report, ranked Benue as most affected state by waves of killings.

“Benue state accounts for the highest death toll of 6,896, followed by Plateau state, where 2,630 people were killed,” Amnesty International said.
