The Chinese Government has established a cultural exchange centre named, Window to China, at the University of Port Harcourt (UNIPORT).

Yan Yuqing, Chinese Consul-General in Lagos, inaugurated the facility, according to a statement issued on Friday in Port Harcourt by UNIPORT’s spokesman, Sammy Kpenu.

Ms Yuqing stated that the establishment of the centre marked a significant milestone in educational and cultural cooperation between China and Nigeria

According to her, the centre was created to strengthen mutual understanding between the two nations through cultural exchange and academic collaboration.

“The Window to China Centre will provide students, researchers, and faculty with opportunities to engage in education, technology, language, and innovation.

“The cultural exchange centre is more than just a building; it is a gateway to learning, dialogue, and enhanced engagement between our nations,” she remarked.

Earlier, Owunari Georgewill, Vice Chancellor of UNIPORT, expressed appreciation to the Chinese Government for its sustained interest in Nigeria and Africa.

He noted that China’s increasing global influence highlighted the centre’s potential to broaden the university’s intellectual and cultural horizons.

“This Window to China Centre represents a timely and forward-thinking approach to deepening our partnership,” Mr Georgewill stated.

The centre will host exhibitions, language classes, academic seminars, and cultural events, further strengthening Nigeria-China relations.
