An Adamawa resident has threatened to kill himself by jumping off a billboard.

Ibrahim Abubakar, on Monday, reportedly threatened to die by suicide unless his favourite TikToker showed up. Mr Abubakar, 19, climbed an advertisement billboard at Ado Bayero Bridge, near Gadar Lado along Zaria Road, Kano.

Police officers and firefighters were unable to persuade the youngster to come down safely.

A spokesperson for the police command in Adamawa, Hussaini Abdullahi, in a statement on Monday, said attempts by operatives to convince him to come down fell on deaf ears until the TikToker, Abdul BK, appeared on the scene.

After being rescued, Mr Abubakar, weak and having spent some hours without food up on the billboard, was rushed to the Police Hospital, Bompai, for medical attention.

Meanwhile, police commissioner Ibrahim Adamu Bakori has ordered a detailed investigation into the incident.

The police advised Nigerians against taking a suicidal approach to handling difficulties, reminding the public that suicide is a crime.

The police encouraged anyone struggling with emotional difficulties to seek help from relevant health professionals and agencies.
