The Local Government Area Chairmen in Ikorodu Division of Lagos State on Friday, signed a Joint Task Force (JTF) Establishment Act, aimed at improving security architecture of the area through coordinated processes into law.

The chairmen signed the by-law at a stakeholders’ security meeting held at the Ikorodu local government secretariat.

The chairmen include Wasiu Adesina, Ikorodu local government, Kazeem Olanrewaju, Ikorodu West Local Council Development and Olusesan Daini, Igbogbo-Baiyeku LCDA.

Others are Wasiu Agoro, Imota LCDA, and Motunrayo Gbadebo-Alogba, Ijede LCDA.

The councillors of Ikorodu local government and the five LCDA making up the division, jointly passed the JTF by-law that was signed by the chairmen.

Speaking after the signing, Mr Adesina, said it would enhance the security architecture of the division as well as back its operations.

Mr Adesina, said the by-law was made possible by the councillors, urging officers of the JTF   to work in collaboration with sister security agencies, assuring them of adequate welfare.

He said, “Five years ago, during the Badoo era in Ikorodu, the six council chairmen in the division came together to set up the civilian JTF to enhance the security architecture of the area. We thank God that since establishing the JTF, the issue of Badoo and other vices had become a thing of the past in the division. Today, the by-law has been signed to ensure that the JTF operation is backed by law, with cooperation from the councillors. We will present operational vehicles to them.”

In his remarks, the chairman of Igbogbo-Baiyeku LCDA said the idea was to bring all government and independent security apparatus within the Ikorodu division to work together.

He said the outgoing chairmen have tried by making sure the civilian JTF would not work in parallel lines or in isolation.

According to him, Ikorodu is an enclosed division where stakeholders must reach an agreement to tackle the insecurity bedevilling it.

He said the act was to ensure that there were no independent or separate security outfits that would work outside the law.

“However, all security apparatus in the division will have their Bible and Quran as a guiding document for better operations, where residents will sleep with their eyes closed.

“What we have done today is a journey of four years on security architecture and local civilian JTF of Ikorodu division.”

Mr Daini said the by-law indicated that there would be a one command security system in the division.

The chairman said that JTF officers were well trained at the police college in the state, and received certificates on local intelligence, promising to engage them more on capacity building.

Six operational vehicles were presented to the JTF to enhance their operations.
