Man arraigned after captured on CCTV stealing 32 packs of bottled water

The police in Abuja on Wednesday arraigned Mohammed Sani in a Chief Magistrates’ Court, Wuse, Abuja, for allegedly stealing 32 packs of bottled water valued at N54,400.
The police charged the defendant with criminal trespass and theft.
The Prosecution Counsel, Chinenye Okafor told the court that the complainant, Ikenla Ngozi, reported the matter at Garki Police Station on June 24.
Ms Okafor alleged that the defendant criminally trespassed the complainant’s shop at Garki market after the close of market between June 19 and 24.
The prosecutor said that the defendant stole 32 packs of bottled water valued N54, 400 and was captured in the complainant’s CCTV footage.
She said the offence contravened the provisions of Sections 342 and 288 of the Penal Code.
The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty.
The Magistrate, Ekpeyong Inyang granted the defendant N50,000 bail with one surety resident within the court’s jurisdiction.
Inyang ordered that the surety swears to an affidavit of means of livelihood, be a responsible person and address verified by the court’s staff.
She adjourned the matter until August 11, for hearing.
